Ahead of its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Bentley have revealed their new Continental GT- and it’s pretty easy on the eye.
Those of you who remember the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept will notice more than a few features have made their way to the new Conti (most notably the headlights), which is a good thing. But the new GT isn’t just about sharper looks. While the super-formed aluminium used for the body panels does indeed allow for crisper creases and more subtle curves, it’s also 80kg lighter. In fact, this Continental GT is set to be the best handling road-going Bentley to ever leave the factory.
To achieve this, Bentley have fitted the new Conti with a 48-volt electrical system which will allow the active suspension to stiffen itself up so well that body roll will be nearly non-existent. A slighter longer wheel base and pushed-back engine should further enhance the handling gains.
The W12 bi-turbo has been tweaked too, and now produces 626bhp and a colossal 900N.m. of torque (between 1750rpm and 4000rpm). All that grunt, which hits the road via an eight-speed dual clutch gearbox and a four-wheel-drive system, will get you 100km/h in 3.7 seconds. Maxed out you’ll be doing 333km/h. So it’s not slow, then.
The interior is typically Bentley, featuring all the latest tech, quilted leather (each embroidered diamond containing 712 stitches) and apparently ten square feet of wood veneer. The best bit? Well there’s a 12.3-inch touch screen in the centre of the dash which can be electrically rotated to bring up some old-school temperature gauges, or, if you’re more of a minimalist, a plain wood veneer section which will transform the dash into a sleek, continuous work of art. Up to 18 speakers can be fitted providing 2200 Watts of music power, while a glass roof gives the cabin a more spacious feel and real metal used on all touch points ensures a truly luxurious tactile experience.
