The Ford F-150 Lightning, the brilliant performance truck built in the early 2000s, is coming back to life. Only, in a very, very different form.

The new Ford F-150 Lightning will be the name for the new all-electric Ford F-150. And while that might sound a bit wrong, think again. The new Lightning will be faster than the original F-150 Lightning truck, promising to honor the name it bears.

While we don't fully know everything about the revered Lightning revival, we will know everything on May 19th, when Ford will debut the new Ford F-150 Lightning. The Debut will be on Ford's social media platforms, as well as on big screens in Times Square in New York City and on the Las Vegas Boulevard.

And while Ford isn't showing us anything with the direct Lightning nameplate, Ford has shown us their electric F-150 in action. Earlier, we reported that the electric F-150 towed over 1 million pounds. Odds are, the final product will look quite a bit similar to the truck you see above, with some Lightning plates peppered about and some unique interior trim.

  • Sad... Not trying to be a dinosaur but it makes me sad that such a kick-butt muscle truck is being electrified

    • Yep. Seeing a simple name of a truck getting (quite literally) bigger, better, faster, and stronger makes me sad. Not to mention, it's much more efficient. Whether or not it's better for the environment depends on who you ask but at least...

  • I said that Ford is sleeping on the idea of making an EV Sports Car called the Thunderbird, and if they were willing to use the Lightning name for the F-150 EV, then that dream is THAT much closer to a reality.

  • I think Ford's marketing department deserves an A+ lately. Whomsoever thought to style their first electric SUV after the Mustang, and share it's name even, was a genius. Right or wrong, love it or hate it, it got people talking. The car advertised itself. Releasing something 'sporty' and 'high performance' is a good idea in itself to peak public interest. Naming it *Lightning* is brilliant marketing. Again, love it or hate it, it's going to get people talking. It will also create buzz to help sell standard models, too. And the *Lightning* model will probably kick @$$!

    • I couldn't have said it better. "Cool Factor" plays a significant role when justifying buying cars and if companies want EV's to take off, they need to make them cool! I think Ford took a lot of risk by naming their new EV truck "Lightning", but...
