The Ford Mustang may soon have something in common with the Tesla Model X
Even if they do not generally reveal a new vehicle, patent filings can provide valuable information on the evolution of an existing model. Today, the Ford Mustang is in the spotlight. It should soon be equipped with a new panoramic windscreen.
The patent features a Mustang with an extremely large windshield, as on some minivans. This XXL windscreen will also involve curved roof reinforcements. This equipment will naturally greatly improve exterior visibility and interior brightness.
The downside is that such a glass surface would drastically reduce the rigidity of the body in the event of an accident. But Ford says it is the curved shape of the reinforcements that will distribute the forces involved in a possible impact. If it is a Mustang that is listed in the patents, it is possible that other models may get this panoramic windshield.
This is not the first time that a production car has such a large windshield. Some vehicles such as the Tesla Model X, the Citroën C4 Spacetourer or the previous gen Vauxhall Astra GTC also involve a panoramic windscreen. We are now curious to see the result on the Mustang and probably on the Mustang Mach-E!
