The future Audi TT could have four doors and become an SUV
After a career of more than 20 years, the Audi TT will most likely not be replaced and will therefore be discontinued in 2021. This sad news is counterbalanced by rumours suggesting the return of the TT, but in a different form. The most plausible would be an SUV version of the TT, offered exclusively with an electric motor.
Other rumours mention a four-door TT. This is the case of the German magazine Auto Bild, claiming that this four-door TT will replace the A3 Sportback and A5 Sportback in 2021. Auto Bild also explains that this family-friendly TT will be reminiscent of the Audi Quattro and will be priced similarly as the Mercedes CLA and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.
Under the hood will be hybrid engines and probably a fully electric version. This electric model could allow Audi to compete with the future BMW i4, also scheduled for 2021. Mercedes will then respond with an electric version of the C-Class.
Audi will therefore have to make a choice to renew an icon that will not be replaced in its original form. The brand will decide between the style of an elegant four door fastback or an SUV, which is much more likely to generate a higher number of sales. So, will Audi go crazy like Ford and turn a legendary vehicle into an SUV?
