Hello All!This is AMOGH.First of all,A BIG,BIG THANK YOU for all who supported me to start this SERIES๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ.I promise you all that this series is gonna be very interesting!So,ENJOY

In SERIES 1,I talk about my all-time favourite car,the MERCEDES SLR MCLAREN.Why I love it a lot??Well,there are a lot of reasons,which I'm not gonna list bcuz its veeeeery long๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜….

First,a little HISTORY(Not at all LITTLE,TBH๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚).The SLR McLaren,as it name suggests,was developed jointly by MERCEDES and MCLAREN.At that time,MERCEDES owned 40% of MCLAREN Group.

It was presented as a concept in the 1999 NORTH AMERICAN MOTOR SHOW,called the VISION SLR.MERC claims this car is a spiritual successor to the legendary 300 SLR UHLENHAUT COUPE.They also said the SLR MCLAREN is a combined inspiration from the 300 SLR and closed-wheel F1 cars,where MERC had an prior and current experience by building POWERTRAINS and ELECTRONICS for the MCLAREN FORMULA 1 TEAM.The SLR was presented as the "TOMORROW's SILVER ARROW",as a tribute to MERC's famous SILVER ARROW cars.

The Concept version had a 5.0L Supercharged AMG V8,which pumped 557 HP and 720 NMs of Torque at 4000 RPM,mated to a 5-speed Automatic Gearbox with Touchshift.

Following the Positive reception of the car,MERC decided to bring it into production and joined forces with their FORMULA 1 DIVISION,MCLAREN and created the SLR MCLAREN.The production version was unveiled to the public on 17th NOVEMBER 2003,with some minor adjustments like some COMPLEX VENTS on both sides,a SORT-OFF re-designed front end,Red tinted Rear lights and the EXHAUSTS being mounted to the sides,just under the door.MERC said the SLR stands for SPORTS LEICHT RENNSPORT(SPORTS LIGHT RACING).

It was in production for 6 years,with a COUPE and a ROADSTER version.On 4th APRIL 2008,MERC said that the SLR would be discontinued and the last of the production cars rolled of in 2009.

Well many of us consider it as a SPORTS COUPE,some journalists considered it as a GRAND TOURER,because of the AUTOMATIC GEARBOX,FRONT-MID ENGINE layout and driving characteristics,whose rivals would include the ASTON MARTIN DBS V12 and the FERRARI 599 GTB FIORANO.

Now,onto the G,B,U........



Yess,the production model SLR had a HAND-BUILT 5.4L SUPERCHARGED V8 developed jointly by AMG and MCLAREN,which produced 626 HP at 6500 RPM and 780 NMs of Torque b/w 3250 RPM and 5000 RPM,which was the highest among its rivals!

2.Speeed and Power

The SLR could do 0-62 mph(100 kmph) in 3.3-3.4s(Results may vary in different conditions),which was 0.9-1s earlier than the DBS and was almost same to the 599,which is very impressive.Also,the car had a Top Speed of 208 mph,which was again the highest in its class.....

3.Light Body

The SLR used CARBON-FIBRE REINFORCED PLASTIC(CFRP) to construct the CAR's body,which was very light.........


The car came with 370mm disc brakes and 8-piston callipers at the front and 360mm disc brakes with 4-piston callipers at the back.Both are CARBON-CERAMICS and as a BONUS,the car came with a so-called AIRBRAKE,which made it come down from 120 mph-0 mph in abt 43m,which is absolutely GORGEOUS๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ!MERC also claimed that these brakes were FADE-RESISTANT(Donno what it means) upto 1200โ„ƒ๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜จ.OMG!!!

5.Side Exhausts

Actually,this is an interesting feature thanks to AERODYNAMICS.The AIR-BRAKE would lift of for about 10ยฐ at a particular speed,however,by the press of a button,this could go upto 30ยฐ(It is SERIOUSLY MENTAL) for increased Rear Downforce.This was further increased by making the car have a FLAT UNDERBODY and fitting a REAR DIFFUSER.Due to this,the exhausts had no other place to exit other than the side,making it another SPECIAL feature of the SLR.

But,I would mention one and the BEST of them,the STIRLING MOSS EDITION.

Unveiled in the 2009 NORTH AMERICAN MOTOR SHOW,it was made as a tribute to YOU-KNOW-WHO(Sir Stirling Moss,of course,you DUNDERHEADED COCONUT๐Ÿ˜‚.Chill,I'm JK,LOL).MERC gave this car a complete SPEEDSTER look,an influence from the 300 SLR.It was designed by the KOREAN designer YOON II-HUN,while the INTERIOR was designed by the DUTCH designer SARKIS BENLIYAN

It used the same engine of the original SLR,only it was tuned to produce 651 HP and 820 NMs of Torque.It was approx 200 KG lighter than the original SLR and so,could do 0-62 mph in 3s dead.Top speed goes to 217 mph.


YUP,the START BUTTON was inside the gear shifter,that's pretty cool.Looks like MERC ensured no one could start and steal away the SLR๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚


1.Brakes catch fire

YUP,this was demonstrated by CLARKSON himself.The cooling-system for the brakes wasn't that gr8 and hence,they glowed and caught fire.Well,it is a very incident,but yeah,quite SHOCKING.


Yes,the car produces quite a lot of vibrations,especially when you revv it while STANDSTILL.Pheww

Well,that's all according to me..........

3.SUPERCHARGER disengagement

YUP,it goes off at 230 kmph for no reason๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•



YUP,the SLR costed from about 315,000โ‚ค.That's not-too-much expensive for a car like this,but when compared to its rivals,it's a lot!!


Though the body may be LIGHT,the overall car weighed 1750 kg!!This is too much for a SPORTS COUPE.

This was chiefly due to the heavy AUTOMATIC GEAR SYSTEM and the fact,MERC added AIR CON,INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM and CRUISE CONTROL to the car.The engine itself weighed 233 Kg๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ


All versions of the SLR came with a standard 5-speed AUTOMATIC GEARBOX.I mean c'mon,you are making a 617 HP car and mating it to a 5-spped GEARBOX??Absolutely RUBBISH!!

Frankly speaking,MERC had decided to mate a 7-speed DC GEARBOX,but left it for no reason๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

4.Interior Quality

For a 315,000โ‚ค car,you expect an amazing LEATHER Interior.NO!!The SLR's interior is filled with a mix of CARBON FIBRE and PLASTIC,which is HORRIBLE to touch!


I frankly admit this is the WORST PART of the SLR.The GEARBOX was really,really,really SLOOOOW to respond.The Shifts were horrendous too.The worst is the PICKUP from 3rd-4th gear.It will seriously drive you NUTS!!๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก


Overall,the SLR McLaren wasn't the perfect SUPERCAR thanks to its WEIGHT and DUMB GEARBOX.However,it is still a legend as it once again gave life in MERC to make amazing SUPERCARS.I still feel it is the pinnacle to the AMG series and one of the best MERCS ever made!
