The Gorgeous Fiat 124 Spider Taken off sale in the UK
Fiat had pulled the stunning 124 Spider from its model range in the UK, the car has only been on sale for 2 years after its introduction in 2017. The car is still available in other markets, for those in the UK who still really want the 124 it's still available under the Abarth brand.
At the moment Fiat didn't release as statement as to why it removed the model from its range, although there are a few theories however.
Despite its handsome looks, peppy attitude and adequate performance the 124 only shifted around 7831 copies in Europe in 2017, Mazda sold about twice as many MX-5s on which the car is based. Despite being based on the same platform, a base spec 124 Spider cost £1100 more than the base MX-5 which is quite a lot in this sector.
It's also speculated the model might be dropped due to its ageing 1.4 MultiAir Turbocharged 4-Cylinder engine not being able to meet the new stricter WLPT emission regulations, as Fiat Chrysler recently dropped this engine from the Alfa Rome Giulietta and Jeep Renegade.
What do you think? 124 or MX-5
I find it a real shame, the 124 gave Fiat brand that bit of fizz it oh so badly needs, without it's most exciting car is the 500 which is great for anyone under 165cm of height, next up is the Tipo which has the problem of appealing only to those 65years of age or over.
The 124 is a perfect MX-5 companion, as the MX-5 abounded it's 'pretty' clothes and tries to look all angry as though it just received a thick b*tch slap that caused its eyelids to swell, the Fiat 124 remains understate, classic and sharp without looking as though it tries too hard.
Both cars are of course fantastic, they share the same basic platform making them some of the best handling cars for the price, but they appeal to different markets. The MX-5 will appeal to those who will like this new aggressive styling (some actually do like it, weird right?) and the N/A motors while 124 will be loved for its effortless good looks and Italian character.
Oh and I was close to buying one, god damn it Fiat! I'm 20 and about to be a student again, do you think I can afford the Abarth yet?!
