The grand tour Colombia special: A quick review

What I thought of the 2 part Colombia special

The cars

Like Jeremy said at the beginning, the cars couldn't have been more different, and they reflected each presenters personality perfectly. Richard's pick up was big and stupid, May's panda was small and thoughtful and Jeremy's jeep was somewhere in the middle.

My favourite parts

Of course I'd have to say that one of the best bits was when Hammond's monster truck crossed the perilously narrow bridge, you could feel the anxiety and you could tell that he was seriously scared. I also enjoyed the scene when they were trying to outrun the hailstorm on the volcano where Jeremy's makeshift roof did surprisingly well. Another great moment was when the bear came right up close to Jeremy's jeep and the sheer excitement when he saw it in the first place. However, the best part of the 2 hour special had to be when James and Jeremy started throwing rocks at each other. This was great as it was completely unscripted and James was genuinely furious.

The comedy

In this special, i felt like there was a good deal of comedy and it didn't feel too forced, like it was in the Mozambique special. From the ongoing comments about "some Pablo guy" to Hammond's "trump truck", i really enjoyed it.

Overall

This has to be the best special of the grand tour era and is amongst the best these 3 have ever done. It felt like a classic top gear special. It had the stupid and useless modifications, the 1 car that never worked, the variety of landscapes, the messing with each other's cars and some genuinely tense moments.

5/5 for me

  • I agree, this was the best special of Grand Tour era, especially these unscripted parts that you mentioned or joking about Clarkson's dry skin etc. :D but I can't give more than 4 stars; for 5 stars it should be something more like the old TG specials (Botswana, Vietnam, Bolivia, Middle East, Uganda) - I can watch them again and again and I never get bored, while in this case I just watched it, enjoyed it, learned about some weird stuff and that's about it. So 4/5👍
