If you haven't already seen the Michelin Chiron video on YouTube, then you need to go see it now. It appears that the guys at Michelin, who created the special tyres needed to keep the Chiron on the road, have released a short video about the Chiron's top speed. The Chiron's top speed is expected to be around a staggering 463kmh (or 288mph if you live in the UK). But remember that's only the expectations. We're not really going to find out the real top speed until someone decideds to do the right thing : get special permission to block up a motorway, fill in the formalities, get one of 200 built Chirons and max out it out. Now, that's not too much to ask for, is it?
As the teaser video states, the Chiron is electronically limited to doing 420kmh (261mph) on the road but it's top speed without the restrictions remains a secret, for now. The video also shows an empty stretch of wet road which is presumably in the UK (with our weather!) but could be someplace in Europe. It then shows a speed counter rapidly accelerating to 280mph before it chnges to 28?mph. If this figure is correct then that means that the Chiron has already broken the official recorded set by the Veyron Super Sport and the unofficial record by the Hennesey Venom GT.
The start and the end of the video show The Grand Tour's logo which might just mean that the Bugatti Chiron is going to feature a top speed run in the next season of The Grand Tour. Now that's just something we really, really want to see.
