Well if you go with science V8 are those type engines which are 'V' in shape and has 8 cylinders blah blah blah telling to all the car guys here about v8 engine , you will be reacting like this.

Actually V8 engine is the mediocre performance/price wise between low powered V6 and more expensive V12 So let me start with my topic about the greatest V8 engines ever built which has greatest punch whether they are super charged or turbocharged.

Market is still flooded with V8s. What’s even more important; it’s flooded with extremely good V8s. Whether it’s power, sound or build quality you’re going for, modern V8s often have it all.

1. 6.2L Hemi SRT Hellcat Supercharged V8

Hellcat still stands out as the most powerful American V8 engine out there and the reason is, 6.2L Demon V8. This beast just produces 707 horsepower which is powered by a 2.4L supercharger tuned by AMG which just makes it a bomb thats why it is ruling the list , here in India we even don't have a 2.4 L engine LOL.

This beast is used in cars like Dodge Challenger and Charger, and Jeep Grand Cherokee

"Hemi’s performance sky high."

2. General Motors 6.2L LT4 Supercharged V8

It’s hard to argue that Chevy small-blocks are some of the best V8 engines ever created. They were affordable, compact, durable, reliable, and easy to maintain and modify. it’s LT4 that stands behind Corvette Z06’s and Camaro ZL1’s 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of massive torque. This beast has 1.7 L supercharger which blows air and make this engine a beast and it sound beats!

3. Mercedes-Benz 4.0L M178 Twin-Turbo V8

When it comes to automotive technology Germans nail it just like Americans too . Newest addition to Mercedes-Benz V8 family here, replaces one such naturally aspirated V8. Instead of 6.2L M156 (M159 in AMG SLS), we now get more compact 4.0L M178 bi-turbo mill with similar power output. The engine debuted in AMG GT where it started with 456 hp. New AMG GT R is able to squeeze as much as 577 ponies and 516 lb-ft of torque out of it. Its two BorgWarner turbos are positioned inside the V configuration.

These turbo just gives a massive boost and the GT-R just flies.

4. Ferrari 3.9L F154 Twin-Turbo V8

We all know that where FERRARI stand out in automotive world and italiens are too well known for their cars and engines .3.9L F154 V8 boasts aluminum alloy cylinder block and heads in a 90 degree angle. . F154 currently powers the likes of Ferrari California, 488 GTB, and GTC4Lusso T. It can also be found in newest Maserati Quattroporte GTS, while V6 version of the engine powers Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. F154 V8’s current maximum amounts to 661 ponies in Ferrari 488 GTB, but there’s potential for more. It’s Ferrari’s first twin-turbo V8 engine.

5. Mclaren 4.0L M840T Twin-Turbo V8

It’s currently only available with former duo’s replacement – McLaren 720S. As the name suggests, new twin-turbocharged 4.0L develops 720 metric horsepower. That’s 710 brake horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque.effectively reduces the dreaded turbo lag. It’s an improvement in almost every single way. But no McLaren comes cheap, and 720S doesn’t either. It costs almost $300,000, and healthy chunk of that figure goes on 720S’ radical new engine.

This hypercar is just mind blowing.

6. BMW 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8

This massive engines power the best of the racing series car "M" by BMW which is M5 which is just made for track as well as for the street. This beauty produces 575 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.

7. Koenigsegg 5.0L Spyker V8

Koenigsegg’s 5.0L engine is one rare beast that precious few people can afford. Coupled with dual turbos, it generates up to 600 horsepower . We can't forget the car which is just awesome and even has been made into movies like "NEED FOR SPEED".

  • Good topic and an interesting choice. But I’d include the Ferrari 355 and the old Buick/Rover motor

  • Good article Madhusan! The Corvette Z06 v8 is my favourite out of this list but I do have one engine to add. The 6.2L V8 that featured in the Merc C63 AMG. Well done buddy.

  • Good article but to tell you frankly this article is biased. All of them are the lastest in today’s car industry. They’re not the greatest they are just the lastest and newest engines in production. If you’re talking about the greatest V8 engines, ever heard of the S62 V8? The Cobra Jet? Audi’s 4.2 V8? Or the most common of all the LS?

  • The greatest V8 engine is the Rover/Buick 3.5L. The noise is my entire childhood 😍
