The Alfa Romeo 164 is a gorgeous saloon car and the V6 engine was a true classic. However, in 1988, Alfa Romeo did something magical and produced the Alfa Romeo 164 Procar.
The man behind its conception was a Mr Bernie Ecclestone of course. He was looking to produce a series called Formula S which married standard road cars with Formula 1. Alfa Romeo were the only manufacturer to produce a car and the idea was scraped soon after.
However, we were still treated to that individual example, the Alfa Romeo 164 Procar and its performance is something quite special.
Riccardo Patrese gives it the full beans down the straight
Underneath the 164 shell was a mid-engine layout with a 3.5-litre V10 engine from a Formula 1 car. This allowed the Alfa to reach 211 mph and reached 0-60 in just over 2 seconds. This was aided by the fact that it weighed only 750kg.
You can listen to the screaming V10 in the clip below:

We hope that Bernie scrapping the Formula S series hasn't put off Alfa Romeo for life as we'd love to see them in Formula 1, hopefully in the form of Luca Lazzini's design:
Would you like to see Alfa Romeo enter this car next year? Let us know in the comments.
