The Greener Side of the Great American Value: 1974 Chevy Impala 4-door in Eugene, OR

Daily driver at the dispensary

I've been passing by this survivor-grade, #malaiseera big-body Chevy 4-door for a few months now. Its owner, a charismatic alternative type who daily-drives this equally charismatic machine, works at the new dispensary on River Road in Eugene, OR, and I decided to stop for photos this time around.

The car is a '74 Chevy Impala 4-door sedan, sold as "The Great American Value" in ads of the era, and indeed, few examples of these sizable classics have survived to 2021, especially in this nice of condition.

Even the interior is nice.

Even the interior is nice.

Like more and more things, people & places around Oregon these days, this car and its owner are California transplants, and this car's condition speaks for itself, it manages to be even better than expected from first glances.

  • A very bad photo of our family’s ‘75 Impala

  • The real headline is that it’s not a Subaru

  • My dad traded his 65 Galaxie 500 for a 74 Impala. It held 6 of us, 3 adults & 2 teens and a 2nd grader plus all of or luggage for a weeks vacation. It was huge. Very cool.

  • Very cool! Also, very unusual for a sedan from that era not to have a vinyl roof. Typically, if they didn’t have vinyl tops, they were owned by law enforcement, utilities, etc. Thanks for sharing!
