The GT2 RS is officially faster than the Huracan Peformante
The Porsche GT2 RS recently run an unofficial time of 6 minutes and 54 seconds after track side spectators managed to capture the time it started and ended the lap. If so, that would put it only 2 seconds behind the current record holder - the Lamborghini Huracan Performante.
Well, Porsche have managed to clock an official time of 6 minutes and 47.3 seconds with an average speed of 184.11km/h or 114.4mph making it the fastest production car to have ever lapped the 'ring. Just to clarify, that's faster than Radical's SR8LM which is purely track focused and also 5 seconds faster than the Huracan Performante.
Porsche brought along two cars driven by Lars Kern and Nick Tandy. Lars managed to achieve the lap back on the 20th of September during what they described as perfect conditions. As the rules state, the car was in production form and didn't use racing slicks.
Below is the video from Porsche themselves of the full on-board footage from the record run with Lars Kern behind the wheel. As well as being ridiculously fast, the RS is so smooth and composed.
So where does that leave the GT2 RS? For comparison the 918 Spyder set a time of 6:57 - a whole 10 seconds slower than this. Kenny Brack tackled the 'ring in a McLaren P1 LM which set a record time for a road car with a time of 6:43, just four seconds faster.
