The GT40 was originally produced as the tool Henry Ford II would use to bring Ford to the top of the charts in motorsport, bringing Ferrari and other European manufacturers to their knees in their own game, specifically at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1964 the Ford GT40 would make its debut at the 24 hours of Le Mans with the No. 12 car of Richard Attwood catching fire mid-way through the race. Ford wouldn't take the win over Ferrari at Le Mans until 1966.
