The Hermes Speedster is the Porsche 356 of the ocean
Introducing the Hermes Speedster: An electric 356 for the seas
Cars and boats have been known to go hand-in-hand in some scenarios. For example, Aston Martin and Lamborghini have made its own boats in the past which look very sleek and modern. But, these tend to be targeted towards the tasteless mega-rich, whereas something classy like this may appeal to a wider audience.
Introducing the Hermes Speedster by Seven Seas Yachts which may just be the most beautiful boat in existence bar the Riva Aquarama. Its vintage looks are inspired by the iconic and equally beautiful Porsche 356 - one of the few cars which would look good as a boat.
What makes this boat even more special is that it is powered by a silent, zero-emission 100 kw electric motor mated to a 30 kwh battery pack. Most variants are powered by a 155 hp Rotax engine but, eco-conscious buyers can now opt for the electric Speedster E (priced at $269,000) which is capable of hitting 36 mph and nine hours of use.
So what elements has it taken from the 356? Well, these include a cut-down, chrome-framed windshield, bucket seats, chrome retro gauges embedded in a leather dash, twin-grated air intakes on the rear sun pad and a 356-style folding cloth top. It looks so old yet it's so modern, a bit like James May in his Tesla.
If you are after a Greek built, German looking car then you should probably consider one of these as they are simply drop-dead gorgeous.
