THE HOtTEST SEAT IN f1...

WHO IS IN POLE POSITION TO GET THE MERCEDES JOB EVERY ACTIVE AND RETIRED DRIVER CAN ONLY DREAM OF? LET US KNOW YOUR VIEWS IN A COMMENT!

Which number will be on the Mercedes AMG F1 car, one thing for sure: it won't be Number 1!

Xmas is just round the corner, and Nikki Lauda didn't manage to convince Nico Rosberg to tell the world that his retirement (at the sweet age of 31) was just a massive joke... So, despite the cool and calm look of Toto Wolff about the whole situation, the Team still has a problem. Who will line up in the other Mercedes AMG F1 car next to Lewis Hamilton?? Let's look at what are in my opinion the most realistic Options starting with the least likely going onto what I believe is the most probable:

one time world champion times two if that makes sense...

22) JENSON BUTTON, World champion with the Brackley based Merc.... errr I mean Brawn GP... Very experienced, has teamed up with Lewis before but capable of handling the pressure of the top seat but is the motivation to race in F1 still there? didn't look like it while he celebrated his retirement...

Ocon has been testing with the team at Silverstone

31 ) ESTEBAN OCON, part of the Mercedes driver development program, would have been an ideal candidate if he hadn't just signed a brand new contract with Force India. Proved himself and got rewarded with a move from Manor maybe unfortunately a bit too early to be available for the Mercedes position

Fernando has been chilling in Brackley.... Apparently.

14 ) FERNANDO ALONSO, would be the chosen one by everybody (Except maybe Lewis) , one of the most if not the most talented driver on the grid, a truck load of experience and has teamed up with Hamilton before at Mclaren. Thiswould be the most reliable option for points scoring and a great spectacle for all the fans who all want to watch a rematch between those 2... please make it happen.... and Jeremy Clarckson won't be able to say that F1 is boring anymore!!! Unfortunately this would be an expensive option, not that Alonso would be greedy with money, he doesn't need it, but McLaren wouldn't make it easy for alonso to get out of the last year of this contract... money talks but does McLaren even want to listen and lose yet another great driver to Mercedes???

a Mercedes AMG C63 Coupe, oh and Valteri Bottas is there too....

a Mercedes AMG C63 Coupe, oh and Valteri Bottas is there too....

77 ) VALTERI BOTTAS is probably more of a like for like swap with Rosberg, what you see is what you get, and genuine all around nice guy that can drive but would he push Lewis in the same way Nico did? and there again come the contract Issue... Williams has already signed one rooki ( Lance Stroll ) for 2017, would they want to lose their only experienced driver in exchange for a small ( $$$Millions£££ ) discount on the engine bill unless they decide could stay for another year?

Pascal Wehrlein, the next Mercedes Star??

Pascal Wehrlein, the next Mercedes Star??

94) PASCAL WEHRLEIN is in my opinion the most natural but ballsy options. Pascal has proved himself already under tremendous pressure to win the DTM Championship therefore a move to a top team shouldn't phase him too much, but it is a huge jump from the back of the grid Manor to the very Front in the spot light and amongst multiple f1 World Champions... it would be a ballsy move for the team but hey, remember that kid called Verstappen? It paid off for Redbull.. can Mercedes afford to take a similar risk, with all the money invested by the team in this guy already, why pay some more money to get somebody else when you have Pascal probably training as hard as he can, keeping an eye, both even, on the telephone and emails...

  • Understand that Valtteri Bottas is in 'pole position' (ouch! 😊) to join Mercedes. Would be a good choice in my opinion, assuming they can lure him from Williams.
