The Hyundai group will definitely abandon the V8 engine at the end of the year
The next Genesis G90 will skip this powertrain
Faced with increasingly stringent environmental regulations, large engines are no longer popular, even among top-of-the-range brands, which are replacing them with more compact units. According to a Genesis official, the Hyundai group will officially abandon the V8 engine at the end of the year.
The next generation Genesis G90 is expected to swap the 5.0-litre V8 for a 3.5-litre turbocharged V6. The Kia K9 had also recently abandoned this engine, making its cousin from Genesis the last car of the group to be equipped with the 5.0-litre V8. It's a pity because this powertrain was particularly appreciated for its smoothness.
The Korean group is just following the current trend of downsizing and massive electrification. Speaking of electrification, it is now almost certain that the next generation of the G90 will offer a fully electric version alongside the 3.5-litre V6.
