  • Did anybody else notice that the Audi kept his foot on the brake for a second longer than the Land Rover? Think he was building up boost. Only thing we can conclude here is that Audi's driver is smarter than the Rover's.

  • BUT!!!! The Land Rover Driver did not lock the centre transmission. (can be seen clearly) It was in 1-Wheel drive! The Land Rover driver didn't have a clue how to drive it. The Audi has auto locking full four-wheel drive with traction control. There was no contest.

  • Big fan of Audi here...but this test is irrelevant.

Audi's quattro has been designed for asphalt. Combined with its high power output, we have this result. But the Land Rover's 4wd system has been designed for off-road. That's where the Audi would have no chance of winning. So, basically this test compares an Autobahn monster with an Off-Road monster. Irrelevant because these two 'monsters' are of completely different types :)

LE: large size tyres (wide) are a great advantage in which regards traction on asphalt. Again, the LR has a huge minus in this irrelevant test, because of its narrow (off-road) tyres.

    • Hard to say. I don't know the weights of either vehicle. Off-highway tires often have a harder compound, but gently spinning them on hard dry surfaces scrubs and warms the tires and deposits rubber into the substrate. More important than...

  • So I should buy an Audi A8 next time I want to go off-roading?

  • The Audi seemed like the obvious winner from the beginning. More power, more traction on pavement, better gear ratios. Depending on tires, the Rover would beat it off-road.
