The Grand Cherokee 4xe is also just the start of a growing lineup for Jeep as they go EV

Stellantis' EV Day presentation came and went yesterday, and besides Dodge and RAM, Jeep has one of the more tangible announcements throughout the entire show. They have a hybrid two-row variant of the Grand Cherokee, with plans to make the 4xe a more permanent fixture in the lineup.

The Grand Cherokee 4xe is not only actual hardware, it's also the genesis upon which Jeep wants to build the 4xe badge as a PHEV distinction. As part of the greater Stellantis master plan to go all-electric by 2030, Jeep is tagging along with five new models between now and 2025, with this Grand Cherokee marking the brand's second step after the Wrangler 4xe.

Unfortunately, Jeep hasn't put out a stat line for this short-wheelbase, two-row Grand Cherokee 4xe, but it's safe to assume that the 293hp V6 found on the standard Grand Cherokee is going to get a boost from an electric motor and battery pack.

Besides this, Jeep brand CEO Christian Meunier also laid out a more general plan for the manufacturer: to have a zero-emissions vehicle in every segment that Jeep plays at come 2025 (including a Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer 4xe). Jeep is also installing solar-powered charging points so that owners can keep trailing on without worrying about being stuck between a rock and a hard place without power.

This shows that Jeep needs to adapt, lest they end up losing out on the coming revolution.

  • When are they going to start defiling our parks with those hideous charging stations?

    • If Jeep is smart (I bet against it), probably right at the entrance. Like, charge here to full and let’s see how far you go before the next checkpoint. Both ways.

    • I remember reading that they were putting the stations at trail heads.
