The Koenigsegg One:1 record run
A lot of preparation and careful planning goes into setting that elusive record time on the race track.
It was an unexpected surprise when the garage door openend and out came the Koenigsegg One:1, it wasn't there by chance. Koenigsegg was on a mission to shatter Spa-Francorchamps' lap record for a street-legal production car on road tyres. With One hp per kg it sure has the potential to do just that.
Koenigsegg is adamant that their records are set in a car as close to customer cars as possible. The only adjustment made to the One:1 was the installment of a roll-cage, a standard safety precaution. 2 drivers came along with the PACE-backed shot at the record, official Koenigsegg test-driver Robert Serwanski and ex-Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil.
The record was indeed shattered, it recorded a laptime of 2:33.26 which is nearly 5 seconds faster than the previous record. However it was not what Koenigsegg wanted.
With a noise limit set at 110 db, Koenigsegg was in trouble. Even more so on the second day when it was restricted to 103 db. With the db-alert sign glowing red, there was nothing to be done. Therefore the new record set by the One:1 is certainly not the cars full potential. Koenigsegg will be back at Spa-Francorchamps for another shot!
The One:1 was introduced at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

Thanks Tom! Much appreciated.
Hi Drew! Thanks for your comment, I've edited the article to make clear it's Spa-Francorchamps!
Hey, sorry to have to ask, but which circuit is this that you're discussing? I don't see any mention of the circuit's name. Thanks!
