The Korean Automaker has Finished Styling the Santa Cruz

We might see this pickup sooner than we think...

2y ago

In 2015, we saw the Santa Cruz pickup concept from the Korean automaker Hyundai at the Detroit show . News regarding the Santa Cruz has been rather little, until now. Hyundai's chief designer says the brand has not only finished styling the upcoming pickup, but will be launching as soon as possible!

Carmag furthermore states that Luc Donckerwolke, Hyundai's chief designer, has confirmed the production version of the Santa Cruz pickup concept was “under development”.

From my side [design] it is finished; the process to put it into production is now under way

Luc Donckerwolke

Luc Donckerwolke goes on to say that the Santa Cruz production model would be launched as soon as possible.

So, from a design side, the Santa Cruz pickup is finished, all we are waiting for is for the production to start. Carmag states that there are speculations that the pickup would hit the market in 2020.

To make things even more interesting, Donckerwolke also confirmed that Hyundai was considering developing a Kia-badged version of the new pickup.

Would you buy the Hyundai Santa Cruz or Kia-badged pickup? Vote down below. Also, do you think these pickups would be competition for other brands like Ford and Toyota? Let me know down in the comments.

  • So it’s a truck that can haul what, a large pack of toilet paper? A short week’s groceries? A disassembled tricycle?

    • Ford bronco? LR Defender 90?

    • At least those are more like miniature SUV’s than miniature pickups. There’s just something awkward about barely usable pickup beds. I’m not a pickup fan either, but at least appreciate their usefulness.
