The latest Shelby GT500
Today I will be talking about the latest Shelby Mustang. The GT500 is back!
The GT500 was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January of 2019 after being long awaited for years. Many including myself were very happy to see it return. This time around it has a lot of down-force components that have never really been seen on a Mustang before. Other than the GT350R but that is quite different.

Engine and transmission
The GT350R used a 5.2 L flat-plane crankshaft V8 that was naturally aspirated. The GT500 however has a 5.2 L cross-plane crankshaft V8 that is supercharged. While the GT350Rs engine was named "Voodoo", the GT500s has been named "predator". The motor can produce up to 760 horsepower and 625 lb ft of torque which is more than the normal Hellcat. Unfortunately for European countries the 5.2 L V8 does not comply with regulations and will not be available in their markets. However they can be imported. There will be a GT500SE option that will produce an extra 40 horsepower, which will bring the power up to 800 horsepower. Mostly because of a smaller supercharger pulley. Ford engineer realized that it could be a little smaller which will increase the power and the engine will have more low end torque which is excellent. Mated to the engine is a 7-speed dual clutch transmission developed by Tremec. Sadly there is no manual transmission option. At least it has shift-paddles.
The GT500 can accelerate from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds which considering the down-force and the fact that it weighs 4,225 pounds I would say that is a strong figure. As for the 1/4 mile the GT500 will achieve it in just 11.0 seconds. In terms of fuel economy the GT500 will get about 12 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway, but if your driving with your foot down, you aren't going to get that.
Carbon fiber track pack
The carbon-fiber track pack makes the GT500 even cooler. However it comes at a price of $18,500 which is very hefty, but it might be worth it. New 20-inch carbon-fiber wheels are included with Michelin Pilot sport tires. Don't forget that both the rear seats are deleted. It also adds an Exposed carbon fiber instrument panel, Exposed carbon fiber GT4 track wing, Adjustable strut top mounts, Recaro leather-trimmed seats, Splitter wickers and a Wheel locking kit.
If you ask me, the new GT500 is one of the coolest cars for 2020. With the supercharged engine and wild aero the car is truly menacing. As always if you enjoyed reading don't forget to bump and follow!
