The McLaren 765LT is here and will most likely blow your socks off
McLaren really aren't messing around with this one
So, the day is finally here. McLaren has just unveiled the brand new edition to its Super Series, the 765LT. This is essentially the 'more track focussed version' of the 720S, if you can believe it. If it is anything like the 675LT, then we are in for a real treat.
The McLaren 765LT comes with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 which will produce 754hp and get the car from 0-62 mph in approximately 2.8sec. Its 0-125mph time of 7.2sec. This is some mega performance. Along with this, the engine gets stronger and comes with lighter forged aluminium pistons and a three-layer head gasket straight from the Senna.
The 765LT has been on a bit of a diet too. It has managed to shed an impressive 80kg from the 720S’s original kerb weight, meaning it weighs no more than 1,229kg. This is usually the case with these 'LT' models and they are always all the better for it. The proof is in the pudding. The 765LT will also have a 15% quicker in-gear acceleration which will make it much quicker than its rivals.
As well as all this, the boffins at McLaren say the 765LT’s lap time at “a reference track” beats the 720S by about 2.5 seconds, and that it can brake from 125mph to a standstill in just 110 metres, which happens to be the same as the Senna.
As you can see, the 765LT appears to look the same as the 720s but just has more bits, and of course it's longer with it being an 'Longtail' version. But only just. It has a new rear with some splendid looking exhausts, of which there are now four. But it's only actually 10mm longer than the 720s. Maybe this means McLaren have perfected the ultimate length for a supercar?
McLaren looks to have smashed it with this one, especially since they have managed to make what sounds like a better, lighter and faster car than the already amazing 720s.
