The Mercedes AMG GT Black has become the fastest production car around the 'Ring
Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is history, all hail the new king!
The Nürburgring is deemed by carmakers as the pinnacle of testing. Only few cars conquer the Nürburgring and a very few set a record. Mercedes has been busy at the Nürburgring quite recently with the GT63S becoming the fastest luxury vehicle to lap the 'Ring.
Now, Mercedes AMG GT Black Series has pushed the limits and dethroned the Lamborghini Aventador to become the fastest production car at the Nürburgring. All hail the new king!
The Merc set a blistering lap time of 6minutes and 43.616 seconds with German driver Maro Engel behind the wheel. It beat the Aventador SVJ by just ONE second.
It was on “soft compound” MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tyres. The car was in its stiffest setting with the camber on the front and rear axles dialed at -3.8 and -3 degrees respectively. The front suspension was lowered by 0.2 inches and the rear one was lowered by 0.1 inches.
Racing driver Maro Engel said, "That was a really impressive ride. With speeds of up to almost 168 mph in the Kesselchen section of the track and well over 186 mph on the long Dottinger Hohe straight, the AMG GT Black Series is significantly faster than my GT3 race car."

Please note that the GT Black Series is the fastest production car around the 'Ring but not the fastest “road-legal sports car”. That record is still held by the brutal Porsche 911 GT2 RS by Manthey Racing.
