The Mercedes AMG GT Black has become the fastest production car around the 'Ring

Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is history, all hail the new king!

The Nürburgring is deemed by carmakers as the pinnacle of testing. Only few cars conquer the Nürburgring and a very few set a record. Mercedes has been busy at the Nürburgring quite recently with the GT63S becoming the fastest luxury vehicle to lap the 'Ring.

Now, Mercedes AMG GT Black Series has pushed the limits and dethroned the Lamborghini Aventador to become the fastest production car at the Nürburgring. All hail the new king!

The Merc set a blistering lap time of 6minutes and 43.616 seconds with German driver Maro Engel behind the wheel. It beat the Aventador SVJ by just ONE second.

It was on “soft compound” MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tyres. The car was in its stiffest setting with the camber on the front and rear axles dialed at -3.8 and -3 degrees respectively. The front suspension was lowered by 0.2 inches and the rear one was lowered by 0.1 inches.

Racing driver Maro Engel said, "That was a really impressive ride. With speeds of up to almost 168 mph in the Kesselchen section of the track and well over 186 mph on the long Dottinger Hohe straight, the AMG GT Black Series is significantly faster than my GT3 race car."

Please note that the GT Black Series is the fastest production car around the 'Ring but not the fastest “road-legal sports car”. That record is still held by the brutal Porsche 911 GT2 RS by Manthey Racing.

Do you think this record will be broken? If yes, then which car will break it?

  • Well holy cannoli, this car really is in a different tier. GG Mercedes, you now have both an F1 title and the Ring record this year.

  • You don’t see BMW smashing many records these days, couldn’t even get any F1 traction either with Williams...... probably why they dropped the strap line ‘the ultimate driving machine’ as Mercedes make more of them than BMW.

    • Yup, Mercedes are pulling away from them all. A class apart

    • That said I like the A-class especially the A45s and better than 1-series.

  • Yes!!! Btw in 2 years the Valkyrie will do a 5:20 as a production car.

  • We all knew that would happen sometime did we.

  • So, the way they adjusted the camber and ride height for this means it’s not standard set up.

If I remember the Lamborghini was as made.

With those camber angles it would sit strange on the road and I’m not sure if that’s road legal. Ok for the race track for sure.

It’s a nice looking car, sounds great, but!!

    • Normally I’m inclined to agree but apparently every owner can adjust on their cars to achieve this subject to their skill.
