If you know anything about the history of Mini or indeed anything about the history of rallying, you'll absolutely know about the legendary exploits of Northern Irish rally driver Paddy Hopkirk. He became famous for taking the classic Mini Cooper, a car that was significantly down on power compared to its rallying rivals, to a surprise win at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964. This win propelled Hopkirk into superstardom and the Mini from a fun little outsider in the rallying world to a genuine piece of rallying history. Hopkirk has become almost inseparable from the Mini brand and to pay homage to that Mini decided to make a special edition car!

The Mini Cooper S Paddy Hopkirk Edition is based on the 3-door Mini Cooper S hatchback, so it has the peppy little 4-cylinder turbo engine and great driving experience that all Cooper S Minis have had since BMW's revival of the brand back in the early 2000s. The car is painted in Chili Red with a white roof and has white number 37 graphics on the doors as well as a white stripe, matching the colour scheme of Hopkirk's rally-winning 1964 Mini Cooper. Hopkirk's signature is a part of the white stripe that runs down the car, along with stickers with the inscription "Paddy Hopkirk Monte Carlo" and a very cool 3D effect graphic on the bonnet that spells out the famous 33 EJB numberplate that the 1964 rally-winning car had. It also gains some nice black details and 17-inch John Cooper Works light-alloy wheels, also in black.

Hopkirk's signature is added to the inside of the car too, thanks to the addition of his signature to the piano black trim on the passenger side and "Paddy Hopkirk" LED entry sills. All of the interior trim is actually in piano black, something that matches really well with the black wheels and accents on the outside of the car. That isn't the end of interior additions either, as the Navigation Pack and Comfort Pack are added to the Paddy Hopkirk Edition as standard equipment.

You can order the Paddy Hopkirk Edition right now at Mini dealers across the country. Only 100 of them will be made prices start from £27,405 RRP, so you might want to get a bit of a move on if you want to own a unique commemoration to a huge part of Mini's history! Whoever is lucky enough to get a hold of one of these will certainly have a unique special edition Mini that's a throwback to a time when a plucky British upstart gave the ultra-competitive sport of rallying a go and, despite very much being the underdog, actually managed to pull off a win!

  • I agree Make it worthy of the name. Strip out the back seats, stick in a roll cage and give it some power. Simples.

    • You could easily do all that stuff yourself if you bought one. Plenty of Mini tuners all over the country who would be happy to oblige.
