Ever since the first Corvette was introduced in 1953, the car starred in many Holywood movies and became the star of the silver screen in its own right. It would be crazy to try to count all Corvette appearances but here are the top 5 of best-known movie Corvettes. 1. Corvette Summer (1978) In this movie, a highly customized ’73 Corvette stars along Mark Hamill (Star Wars) and even though nobody today remembers the plot it seems that everybody recognizes the wild red Corvette with flames on the side. This Corvette may not be purists' favorite but customizations like this were common in late '70s.
2. King of the Mountain (1981) This B production flick is famous for two things, describing an interesting world of illegal racing on Mulholland Drive in LA and featuring a great racing scene between a stripped down and hot rodded ’67 Corvette and Porsche 356 Speedster. Dennis Hopper drives the Corvette and the car perfectly resembles his character in the movie and it is a must see for any Corvette fan.
3. Kiss Me Deadly (1955) This black and white classic is a typical detective noir drama about a private eye from Los Angeles who drives a beautiful ’54 Corvette. In fact, this is one of the first times that a Corvette was featured in a mainstream movie and there is a lot of driving scenes which makes a viewer really appreciate the classic lines and elegance of the first generation Corvettes.
4. Boogie Nights (1997) As a rising star in the adult film industry of the '70s, Mark Wahlberg as Dirk Diggler buys an orange ’77 Corvette which symbolizes his success. However, his career starts to plummet as well as his Corvette but the movie is full of driving and even getaway scenes with the flaming orange C3 Vette which makes it instantly recognizable.
5. Clambake (1967) The movie Clambake could be easily left forgotten if it weren't for two things. Elvis Presley in the leading role and a gorgeous ’59 Corvette Stingray prototype. Like any other Elvis’s film, this was a musical with a light plot but the appearance of the Stingray Vette is significant and deserves its place in movie Corvettes hall of fame. It was a real ’59 Stingray prototype and it featured fuel injection engine, independent suspension and lots of racing parts, and Elvis did all of driving by himself so it is a good reason for watching this forgotten movie.
