The Mysterious GT by Citroen

The driving simulators create a phenonemon around us as automotive enthusiasts. The video games evolve the ways we imagine the perfect cars. The new Audi E-tron Vision GT managed to increase the passion amongst the drivers. The sport cars, the supercars and the F1 vehicles can be modified by the gamers who invent new models with some improvements. Some designers from motoring brands are inspired by the creativity and the genious ideas in the Gran Turismo games. Some of them managed to convince their bosses to produce concept cars from these games. The GT by Citroen (or GTbyCitroen) is one of them.

That first supercar was designed by Takumi Yamamoto from the French brand and Kazunori Yamauchi, director of Polyphony Digital. They worked very hard to develop that project. Contrary to Ferrari or Lamborghini, Citroen isn't really known as a luxury brand producing hatchback, berlines and coupé models. The GT by Citroen celebrates her tenth birthday after being launched at the Geneva Motor Show. In October 2008, the first models were shown to the public at Paris Motor Show. One year later, some models were completed for an expensive price or in the other words : $2.1 millions each. The rarest owners might be happy to have prototypes in their collections.

​ How to describe that amazing supercar which is considered as an ancestor of the Audi E-Tron Vision GT? The GTbyCitroen could be compared to one of the best attempts in the EV's innovations. In the virtual world of Gran Turismo 5 available on the PS4, the GTbyCitroen is powered by hydrogen fuel cells! This electric vehicle deserves an award to develop some new alternatives about the replacement of the internal combustion engines. The supercar has got 580 kW and 646 hp. You can chose different versions amongst four choices. Unfortunately, the real version is a bit different from the virtual model. Instead of the hydrogen fuel cells, the six models are equipped with Ford V8 engine without mentioning the four-wheel drive and the two seats. It doesn't sound innovative and glamorous for a supercar from a GT game. Don't forget, the GTbyCitroen was launched ten years ago when the first EVs was introduced ten years earlier with the Toyota Prius in 1996/1998.

The Audi E-Tron Vision GT stepped a new era for the concept cars conceived by some automotive designers. Before the launch of this car with Audi, BMW or Nissan tried to create events around their concept cars. What will be the next supercars from the Gran Turismo series to be built? The GT by Citroen seems to be a souvenir now. That attempt could be considered as a success if Citroen had produced an electric version powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The EV revolution is coming now so let's go for new attempts in a world where the autonomous cars could be change our daily lives as drivers. The Citroen Survolt, another concept electric car was presented by the brand so nothing is impossible to achieve.
