The New GR Yaris A Secret Successor to the Dominating Audi Quattro?
The new 2020 Toyota GR Yaris is definitely catching our attention. This new rally car for the street is equipped with an R5 qualifying, very light 1.6-litre 3cyl turbo engine producing 257bhp capable of launching this little beast to 60mph in just 5.5 seconds. The Toyota engineers have got it right, fitting the new Yaris with a six-speed manual transmission paired to an AWD system which if in sport mode, will send 70 per cent of power to the rear and 30 per cent to the front. 0-60 happens in a claimed 5.5 seconds while it keeps on pulling to 143mph. Oh yes, this will get us petrolheads pretty excited!
As soon as I saw this car, it reminded me of the dominating Audi quattro, with its tuned down for the street rally car pedigree, wide wheel arches and a turbocharged engine it’s a thing of the past.
What are your opinions? Has Toyota just created a legend?
