The Nürburgring has named a corner after Sabine Schmitz
Meet the Sabine-Schmitz-Kurve
The whole motoring world was shocked by the sad demise of ex-Top Gear presenter and 'Queen of the Nürburgring' Sabine Schmitz. Since her heavenly-abode, a petition was made to name a corner after her at the German race track and now the dream has come true.
Sabine Schmitz has been synonymous with the Nürburgring having born a few metres away from the track and broken many records. The Nordschleife now has the Sabine-Schmitz-Kurve and it is dubbed as the highest honour for "the ambassador of the Nürburgring."
The corner is after the first turning off on the Nordschleife and its official inauguration ceremony will take place on September 11 as part of the six-hour ROWE 6 Stunden ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen race of the Nürburgring Endurance Series.
“Sabine Schmitz was the ambassador of the Nürburgring. Her name was mentioned around the globe in the same breath as our race track”, says Nürburgring Managing Director Mirco Markfort. “It is still stands for what defines the Nürburgring: the close connection to the region, the close proximity to the fans and the passionate commitment.”
