The one and only BMW 1600 GT has been saved

45w ago

The 1600 GT was unsung and not many know about it and they are not wrong. Only two were made and rather sorrowfully one of the pair was crashed. The other one was scrapped during development.

You might be thinking that this 1600 GT left would be restored by a team of experienced BMW employees. No, it isn't. Infact it has been restored by trainees at the company's plant in Dingolfing.

Original parts were used wherever possible while other components were completely remanufactured. No surprise then that this apprenticeship project took years rather than months.

It is good to see such a restored gem in today's, rather annoying era of mordernising classics. It is a joy to look at and I don't know about you, but I am really jealoused of these apprentices.

  • Totally agree Tejas, would have gut Fiat Spider sales in half.

  • It is important to note that this is the only remaining 1600 GT Convertible, the Coupe sold over 1,200 copies.
