THE PERFECT $100K CAR - PORSCHE CAYMAN GT4

The $100,000 price point offers many options in the new and used market. Typically, I only look at used cars that have already hit a bulk of their depreciation. However, the Cayman GT4 has held its value ridiculously well and they’re not far off from the MSRP, even for the 2016 examples. The Lotus Evora GT is a close contender in this category and ideally I would choose both. Due to the nature of the Porsche collector market, I think that gives the edge to the GT4. I took these photos a few months ago but I just recently reworked the photo set and to give this car a bit more love.

  • As a guy who likes to track, I think the GT4 is a bit of a disappointment. It’s very common to hear complaints about its gearbox’s long ratios, and it’s lap times in tests seem pretty average. Imo, the real used gems in the 718 lineup are the S and GTS with the 2.5T. That engine makes 420-450hp with a tune and with so much more torque will be much faster than the 4.0 n/a engine in almost all circumstances. Dragy times show the fastest 718’s with turbos easily out performing the bigger n/a motor.

The fact purists keep the GT4 price super high makes the smaller engined turbo cars even more attractive.
