After a two-year break, it’s back – louder and better than ever: the Porsche Museum’s legendary Sound Night

The Porsche Museum – or rather, four stars from the racing world – have announced a Sound Night will take place this September, after a two-year hiatus.

The engines of several racing and series production cars from the company collection – cars that have written or will write history on the world’s race tracks – will take it in turns to fill the venue with sound in what will be the first digital version of the popular event.

“We are delighted to be able to announce our first digital Sound Night to fans and customers all over the world. The coronavirus pandemic has presented all of us with enormous challenges, but it has also led us to seek out new opportunities,” says Achim Stejskal, Head of Porsche Heritage and Museum. “Following numerous requests, we realised that we were not the only ones who were missing the sound of engines. So this year, for the very first time, we will broadcast the typical Porsche sound as a live digital event in every country around the world.”

Rally legend Walter Röhrl joined former Formula One ace Hans-Joachim Stuck and current racers Timo Bernhard and Pascal Wehrlein to announce the ‘Next Level’ event. The foursome – all brand ambassadors – will also play an active role in the night, which will be spread between the Porsche Museum and the Development Centre in Weissach, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

“When I heard that Porsche was holding another Sound Night, I naturally agreed immediately. The unique sound of many Porsche models inspires me,” says Röhrl, the two-time Rally World Champion and development advisor for Porsche for more than 25 years. “I won’t be the only one who has the opportunity to drive a car in front of the cameras that has never been shown at a Sound Night before. There are other models among the numerous Porsche icons that will also be celebrating their premiere at the Sound Night.”

Viewers will be able to enjoy the recollections of contemporary witnesses and high-profile figures from the automotive world in German, English and French when the Sound Night is aired on 18 September at 19:00. We’ll share more details about the event as soon as we get them.
