The Porsche Taycan Turbo Somehow Lapped Faster Than A Shelby GT500 At Hockenheim
Only by half a second, sure, but it's quite a miracle for the non-S variant of Porsche's EV warrior
I'm not joking: Porsche's Taycan Turbo (the non-S version) whipped up a 1:54. time at Hockenheimring, 0.5s faster than the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 that boasts 90 more hp and weighing almost a ton less.
German magazine Sport-Auto sent Christian Gebhardt out with the Taycan Turbo on an overcast day to set this surprise of a time round Hockenheim, and the resulting footage is quite a trip, to say the least.
For context, here's the lap the Shelby GT500 made:
And for a direct 4-door rival, here's the BMW M5 Competition going a tenth slower:
It's quite a shock to me to see the Taycan set a lap that can make these cars sweat (and how hairy and lairy the lap went), but I suppose it's down to Porsche just being a smidge better at tuning the Taycan overall.
