The presentation of the Alfa Romeo Tonale is delayed by three months
The vehicle is not yet ready
The Alfa Romeo Tonale is one of the most eagerly awaited new cars of this year. The wait for what will be the little brother of the Stelvio seemed endless. The presentation of the compact SUV, scheduled for this autumn, has unfortunately been postponed for three months to further improve the vehicle before its launch.
Alfa Romeo CEO Jean Philippe Imparato has reportedly seen the SUV in its final form since early February. While the styling was decent, it was the technology that clearly did not convince the boss. In its plug-in hybrid version, the Tonale would offer insufficient performance.
The Tonale will use the platform of the Jeep Compass and will thus borrow the same electrified architecture as the American. It will therefore have a range of 30.4 mi (49 km) in electric mode. That's OK, but not much compared to the Peugeot 3008, which offers a range of almost 37.3 mi (60 km) without burning a drop of petrol.
Imparato is asking for more from Alfa Romeo in the most competitive segment in Europe. This is what it will take for the Italian brand to stand up against competitors like BMW, Mercedes and Audi.
