"GREAT FOR A FIRST ATTEMPT"

THE OUTSIDE

Well well this is a magnificently gorgeous car. Long flowing curves from front to rear which continues around the corners of the vehicle. This is just like the original Puma that was one big curve. The new one is just as curvy however we are now a performance SUV which is suitable for not just mum but dad as well.

The car has lots of gloss black plastics and unlike the Fiesta ST the Puma gets all of the grills finished in the high gloss black giving it that more premium feel and modern look. I think this is a good step in the right direction as mentioned in some of my previous articles because it is making the Ford product on par with some of the "better" brands.

From behind the car is as good looking as the front. We have that similar style rear valance to the older Fiesta ST180. Smooth simple design but quite effective, running from corner to corner of the car. This makes it look wider than it is which is nice design as typically wider cars are the faster ones for example a Veyron. On the Puma ST you get a choice of two wheels. The ones photo'd are the Magnetite Dark Finish but you can also get them with a machined face as well. All round I think this is a really good looking sporty, usable family SUV.

INSIDE WE GO

The interior is very well designed. From the digital display to the comfy Recaro seats from the Fiesta ST MK8. The leather inside the car is nice and crisp and suits the car well. The dash and glove box are still plastic but Ford has now put in some carbon looking trims to break that up. Which personally I think is great! Then there are lots of little red attentions to detail. For example the stop start button now has red font to match the ST badge. This is only something small but a great touch regardless.

On the Puma ST you have a whole list of extras you can add. I was very lucky as this one had most of them. We have got heated seats and heated steering wheel. Blind spot indicator system, B&O sound system, wireless charging, performance pack. The performance pack includes the limited slip differential and launch control function which I think really give the car the edge over its competitors. It also makes it more fun to drive when driving more spiritedly.

WHY DO I LIKE IT?

I like it because it is practical but brilliant fun at the same time. It has a little 1.5 Eco-boost engine pushing out 200 bhp with 320 nm of torque. It is no slouch! From the lights you can be doing 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds which don't get me wrong isn't going to pull your face off but is going to be fun. The Puma ST also has brillaint attention to detail for example the front splitter having Ford performance engraved into the plastic. The alloys also having the ST logo on them as part of the alloy is cool which is something that was done on the latest Focus RS. Lots of little bits make a big bit and this is on big bit of greatness. It is spacious, usable and epic to drive. If you need a bigger car and still want a fun car well here it is.

  • The Puma was a rally car. This is basically a fiesta.
