The Purists Porsche GT3

Porsche purists have a love hate relationship with the 996 generation 911 from 1997-2004. This generation of 911 had styling and minor mechanical issues that impacted the enjoyment for Porsche enthusiasts.

Except when it came to the variants with the acclaimed Mezger engine. That is, the Turbo and the GT3 versions. The GT3 was a drivers car. A pure analog experience with the essence of the air-cooled era. Compared with the latest Porsche GT cars, the 996 era GT3's had smaller rear wings and minimal technology. Nonetheless, drive a 996 and 991 GT3 back to back and although differences would be felt so would the similarities.

The video below from Japan puts you in the cabin of the Porsche to experience the 996 GT3. The sound is pure and the car is amazing. You really should watch the video below.

  • My advice (very enlightened, as usual lol): Get a 996 before prices skyrocket......if it's not already the case.

  • The 996 are starting to gain traction, and certainly the GT3 seems like the one to have.

    • I almost bought one 3 years ago. Now the prices are way to high. The 996 Gen 2 GT3 is better but purists seem to like the Gen 1.

    • I haven’t had the experience of a GT3. My mom had a 2000 Carrera 4 years ago, and I had a ‘73 911T.. Totally different but clearly related.
