Porsche purists have a love hate relationship with the 996 generation 911 from 1997-2004. This generation of 911 had styling and minor mechanical issues that impacted the enjoyment for Porsche enthusiasts.
Except when it came to the variants with the acclaimed Mezger engine. That is, the Turbo and the GT3 versions. The GT3 was a drivers car. A pure analog experience with the essence of the air-cooled era. Compared with the latest Porsche GT cars, the 996 era GT3's had smaller rear wings and minimal technology. Nonetheless, drive a 996 and 991 GT3 back to back and although differences would be felt so would the similarities.
