The reason that GT Sport online races can be so infuriating

This GT Sport gaming footage will get every true gamer's blood boiling

Ever since the dawn of online gaming, battles have raged over headphones at the morality of the behaviour of some players. Driving games are particularly bad for people completely disregarding track etiquette, leading to some dodgy overtakes, deliberate contact and even misguided penalties handed out by the game itself.

This footage from YouTube gamer Phantom Scouse was brought to my attention recently and epitomises everything wrong with the way some other players go about their business online.

While chasing down a group of cars in front, our good man Scouse witnesses a yellow Corvette GT3 car obviously out for some blood and causing contact left, right and centre. When trying to pass said Corvette, the nutter decides the overtake isn't on and rams Scouse off the road.

He manages to survive the initial bump but this only seems to enrage the Corvette player more, leading to a full on T-boning at the next corner. After recovering, the VW-wielding gamer then immediately catches up with the Corvette (he'd obviously targeted another car up the road and had caused a collision again), leading to another deliberate crash that would have led many to send an extremely sweary voicemail after quitting the game.

Finally leaving the Corvette to its own devices, the VW is then entangled in yet another needless scuffle, with a player rejoining the track from the grass in a McLaren, blatantly without looking to see if another car was coming.

In games like Project Cars 2, this kind of aggressive and ignorant driving would be heavily punished through the driver rating system, meaning that other players could filter these hell raising maniacs out from their online races. But sadly, GT Sport leaves your track battles open to guys who essentially go unpunished for ruining other people's races. The 'ghosting' when people crash only goes so far, it seems...

  • Really really frustrating... they must add at least an option to report unfair players!

  • I was kicking ass all the way and they all plotted against me and was bumped off on the 2nd to last lap. I quit then rejoined and wrecked all of them.

  • Sorta happened to me in Project Cars 2 last night. Only had one other car on the track, he was leading but then decided it would be more fun to try and target me. I was able to avoid him but still.

  • I was doing a GTLM/GT3 race at Mugello on Forza 7 once and a guy in a Gallardo Super Trofeo and another in an Audi R8 LMS Ultra were sitting on the track waiting for people to drive by so they could drive out in front of them. I dodged them most of the time, but I didn’t finish the race because of them.

  • I get ahead early in races because im good off the line ( or everyone else is slow off the line because of their setup or something ) But i always stuff up and crash eventually.
