The saga.

I was browsing the internet after selling my 997 C4S and saw that the new GT3 was available to buy on the configurator. I called the OPC in Jeddah to confirm whether or not it was a hoax and they said I could have one! What joy! However, over the coming months it was to become my worst nightmare.

I went to the dealer to hand over my deposit and was told the finance was all ok and I was pre approved. All I had to do was hand over the deposit and sign the paperwork. I was ecstatic.

After six months the car arrived and I went to check it. Everything was great. Unfortunately, when I came to sign the financial documents I was told that I wasn’t actually pre approved and most of the stuff the salesman mentioned was a complete fabrication just to attain the sale. He no longer works for them. This was all kept hush hush by the staff and I promptly got back my deposit.

I binned off the idea of having one in Saudi and decided to do a spot of travelling instead. After being in the UK for a short time I decided to solo it to Prague for a weekend away. It was great. One night I found myself chatting to a guy in a bar who worked in Dubai. ‘I work in Saudi!’ I told him, and decided to rant for approximately 35 mins about the Porsche saga. His expression changed, and he told me he was the boss of Porsche Middle East. Whoops!

The next day I received an apologetic email from the manager of the OPC and he offered me a different car. This turned out to be a lot more expensive than the GT3 as it was a brand new 991.2 Turbo. How could this possibly work if I was refused finance for the GT3!! Anyhow, they gave me such a massive discount that the bank agreed to finance it, and now I’m the very proud owner of a 2018 991.2 Turbo in glorious Miami blue.

Life is very strange.

  • What an awesome story, though. So sorry you couldn't get the GT3, but that Turbo is absolutely stunning. Good for you, man - drive it in good health!
