Rick Bone built and still races this beautiful 310Hp/670Kg SR20DET swapped Datsun 1200 Coupé. Although not the only engine this Monster has been powered by, in the 2016 edition of Leadfoot Festival it was the one used to win the Pre-1975 Class of Rod Millen´s event.
This is a 1972 car, that was repurposed and rebuilt in the 90´s for the SS2000 Class of Circuit Racing in New Zealand. At first it used a dry-sumped, fuel injected Datsun A15 pushrod engine, with a Cosworth crank, capable of an already impressive 208Hp/9.000Rpm.
But the quest for power and competitive edge led to the brilliant decision of "shoving" an SR20DET engine unit on the lightweight 70´s Coupé. A fantastically accomplished circuit racer capable of keeping up with much more powerful and newer machinery after adopting the Turbocharged lump, it has then discovered the joys of Hillclimb Racing in the unique Leadfoot Festival event, and nowadays it saw the older Naturally Aspirated A15 engine unit being refitted.
