The Steve McQueen inspired Porsche 911 R

Take a look at the unique one off tribute car.

For the love of Porsche

It was just a question of time before a car would be made in tribute to the king of cool, his insatiable appetite for racing cars. motorbikes and any vehicle has gone down in history, he got the spine tingling urge and had to try and test for himself to see if it was good enough to be added to his extensive collection of Speed Machines. He had owned a 1969 911 S of his own which he adored but left at home in California while filming Le Mans in France in 1971. This 1970 edition was used in the opening scene of the film and photographed throughout by the paparazzi in their thousands. Who better to promote a new Porsche than Mr.Porsche himself, Steve also formed a bond with the 1970 911 S Porsche and decided to buy it and had it shipped to Los Angeles at the end of filming and kept it secretly hidden for his own private use.

Dedication

The tribute car is fashioned on the original 911 S and the pride of Steve`s collection. The McQueen Edition has a Slate Grey exterior colour with contrasting silver bonnet stripes and yellow Porsche lettering. The interior has black leather bucket seats with tweed inserts. The most unique feature of this car is the personalized door sills inscribed with McQueen’s famous quote: from the Le Mans film “Racing is life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting.”

Tribute

With McQueen being an avid Porsche fan is seems befitting to have such an iconic car in tribute to such an iconic actor. Having more Porsche`s in his collection than any other car and putting his own mark on the colour scheme of each of his cars was a trait he excelled in and this being a copy of his original 1969 911 i`m sure he would have been proud and overwhelmed at the incredible modern day version.
