The straight-six howl in this Jaguar commercial will put a lump in your throat
The Jag straight-six engine is one of the automotive all-time greats
When most people think 'Jaguar', the E-Type and F-Type probably spring to mind, and for good reason. Malcolm Sayer designed some of the most stunning machinery to ever bless our roads in the '50s and '60s and Ian Callum has taken on that heavy mantle to pencil some of the stand-out designs of the last few decades.
The company is thriving under ownership of Indian steel-producer Tata and with this success has brought about Jag's launch of its Classic workshop in Coventry. Positioned as its heritage department, Jaguar Land Rover Classic seeks to restore any and all customer cars from the past, bringing legends of the marque back to their full and deserved glory. On top of this, Jaguar decided to remake the Jaguar XKSS, building nine specimens to make up for the cars that were destroyed in a terrible factory fire in 1957.
And through this footage of a near-spiritual LA early morning hoon, the old-school division unveiled its new-original sports car in stunning fashion.
With the Kev Riches (Jaguar Classic Engineering Manager) at the wheel, the XKSS (a road-going conversion of the Le Mans-winning Jaguar D-Type) produces one of the most spine-tingling automotive symphonies as the straight-six bark bounces off canyon walls, making every petrolhead wish it was the 1950s again.
A beautifully sculpted body shell, quaint dimensions and details that would have you pouring over it for hours - the Jaguar XKSS is aesthetically perfect. And thanks to a huge vault of archives, the nine rebirth cars will be the ultimate in classic car ownership.
