The Story

The Baja was a truck designed by Subaru with a usual Boxer 4 engine found in every car Subaru makes nowadays. Subaru marketed the Baja in the United States, South Africa, Canada, and Chile. But before the Baja went for sale, it started as the Subaru ST-X.

Doesn't look that different does it?

"the baja's jarring look is homage to rally-race trucks. It's supposed to look funny, look different."

Peter tenn (helper of the baja project)

A helper of the Baja project, Peter Tenn, stated in 2002, "the Baja's jarring look is homage to rally-race trucks. It's supposed to look funky, look different." The body design was very similar and had most materials from the Subaru Legacy or Outback wagon. It won the award (well in my mind) of "Most Appealing Compact Pickup" and it was super reliable for a pickup. Though due to great sales, the Baja was removed in 2006, sold out in 2008, and was taken off the subaru website in 2007

The Specs

In 2003 the Baja Sport had a 2.5L H4 that made 165 horsepower at 5.6k rpm and made 166 lb/ft at 4k. It was AWD and the maximum towing capacity 2,400 lbs. and the payload was 1,070 lbs. It weighed 3,485 lbs. and the grossweight is around 4000 lbs. and the turning radius was 18.3" and seats 4 people.

The Baja averages at 20 city/25 highway with a 16.9 gal. tank, it's dimensions acording to autoblog.com is the picture down below

In 2004 the engine then made 210 hp and added the option of either a manual or an automatic. All models increased ground clearance from 7.3" to 8.4". In 2005 models were given increased ride height, a power outlet in the center console, rear seat back net pocket, and turbocharged models with leather offered a new tonneau bed cover. Then in 2006 the turbocharged variant got an optional package that included leather trimmed upholstery, heated seats, special alloy wheels, a hard bed cover, and the sport-mode automatic transmission. All models received an enhanced security system.

The End

Well technically it isn't the "end" but it is. The Baja was, in my mind, a good truck. It seemed useful, it's japanese so it can last a while, and, well, it's a U T E. But, i go to cargurus, autotrader, carfax, and carvana but there are barely any search results.... what happened? We may never know, but if Subaru could bring back the Baja, it would be great in my mind... people may not agree but eh....
