The two racers fighting for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup title
Tension rises in the duel for the Supercup title
The penultimate round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020 kicks off at Spa-Francorchamps tomorrow (Sunday) and things could be very tight indeed for the two favourites.
The fight for the international one-make race series title has turned into something of a duel between Larry ten Voorde (Netherlands/Team GP Elite) and Dylan Pereira (Luxembourg/BWT Lechner Racing) who, with 118 points and 114 points respectively, have a clear lead over the rest of the field.
Last year, when the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars visited the Belgian Formula 1 circuit, Pereira earned maximum points after securing pole position and then scoring a victory.
“The Spa-Francorchamps round is something of a home race for me,” says the Luxembourger about the 7.004-kilometre (4.352-mile) racetrack – the longest on the Supercup calendar. “This track is very demanding. Passages like Eau Rouge and Blanchimont require a great deal of courage – and that’s why this circuit is one of my favourites. I’m eager to reclaim the points lead here.”
Ten Voorde also has a special connection to the rollercoaster racetrack in the Ardennes, having contested his first Supercup race there in 2016. The Dutchman, who finished fourth there last year, said: “I’m obviously under pressure as the points leader, but I like that. It makes me mobilise all my reserves.”
Qualifying starts at 13:45 local time today (Saturday) while the main race is scheduled to begin at 12:30 tomorrow (Sunday). Fans can watch the action as it's streamed live at F1TV.formula1.com
