These are the first official pictures of the all-new hulk green, slightly angry looking 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

The official reveal confirms that the updated GT3 RS is packing an extra 20bhp with a total power output of 513bhp (520hp). This is only a slight power bump for the normally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six motor that was previously pushing out 493bhp (500hp) at 8,250rpm.

This power increase separates this revised model from its non-RS badged GT3 sibling that was released last year packing a 493bhp (500hp) 4.0-litre motor. Sadly for the purists, buyers can only spec a seven-speed PDK unit as there is no option for a manual.

A majority of the changes are beneath that Hulk green skin, these include some light fettling to the flat-six motor giving it a new redline at a screaming 9,000 rpm. Other changes include a number of aero tweaks such as the restyled front bumper with new air intakes to help optimise airflow, along with a tweaked rear bumper sporting larger air vents. The rear wing has also been updated with revised endplates, all in the name of helping the new GT3 RS cut through the air more efficiently.

Porsche has also reworked the rear-wheel steering setup, and again fitted massive wheels with 20 inches rims at the front shod in specially developed 265/35 rubber to "enhance agility and steering behaviour," with 21 inches wheels at the back wearing 325/30 tyres for improved rear axle traction.

All of these updates result in the literal shaving of a tenth off the 0-62mph sprint which is now 3.2 seconds dead. If you can find enough road, the updated GT3 RS will crack 194mph in a straight line which is 1mph more than the old car.

On the inside, its business as usual with soundproofing and door handles being binned in favour of less sound absorption and nylon loops to close the doors with. Also present is those carbon shelled race seats all in the name of “less weight equals more speed.” Porsche will also offer an optional Clubsport package to make your GT3 RS even more hardcore by fitting six-point harnesses, a roll cage and a fire extinguisher.

If you want one in Hulk green (officially called Lime Green), then prices start from £141,346 with the first cars hitting dealerships in summer 2018. The all new Porsche 911 GT3 RS will make its public bow at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show early next month.

Is the revised Porsche 911 GT3 RS enough to cut it with the current crop of supercars? Let us know in the comments.

  • I don’t understand the constant comments about manual gear boxes in this sort of car. Cars like this are designed to go round a track as fast as possible. The fastest way is with a semi-auto. I don’t hear Lewis and Seb saying they wish they had manuals in their F1 cars. If you want a manual get something with a different design ethos.

  • No doubt about it- as a driving device it will be just about as good as it gets. Shame about that carbon bonnet. Hideous.

EDIT: I've just looked at the interior again, and I was instantly a little sick in my mouth. Kermit wants his skin back.

  • No manual gearbox? Up go the manual 997 GT3RS Gen 2 prices. Thing is this: a three pedal stick shift car connects one to the elements. Lovely as they are, PDKs dont, although one might be a few enths of a second faster per lap. Nick.

  • Nice, but I always begrudge paying extra for having nice things taken out of my car. Unless you're replacing the shell with carbon fibre composite, weight reduction should make the car CHEAPER!
