The upgraded Audi R8 RWD is powered by a 562-hp V10: buy one before it’s illegal
Please please please
The Audi R8 is yet another amazing car we’ll soon have to say goodbye to. It won’t be replaced - not right away - and when the successor comes along it’ll be either electric or a hybrid, it certainly won’t have a V8 or a V10 in it. The good news is that day hasn’t come yet, and Audi has actually released an upgraded rear-wheel-drive version of its supercar. Which is great.
The 2022 Audi R8 is powered by a 5.2-litre V10, sending 562 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a 7-speed S Tronic transmission. It only takes 3.7 seconds to reach 60 mph from standstill (3.8 for the Spyder) and it also has a new sport exhaust system to make sure it makes the right noise to match its performance figures. The top speed is 204 mph. Mind you, the Spyder is a little slower, with a top speed of… 203 mph.
Audi said the RWD R8 actually ihnerits 60% of components from the LMS GT4 car, and it’s equipped with Audi’s latest ESC paired with Audi‘s Dynamic steering.
It looks broadly the same as the old model… but better. More aggressive, more stylish, with lightweight 19/20-inch wheels (front-rear, also available in Bronze!) with the optional ceramic disc brakes, and Nappa leather upholstery for the interior.
In the UK, the new R8 V10 Performance RWD coupe starts at £126,885 ($172k) and if you have that kind of cash to spend on a car, please go ahead and get one. You won’t be able to buy a new V10 car for much longer.
