The Very Best of 2019

Highlighting the very best cars of my first full year of collecting.

When 2019 started, I had a humble little collection of a Maisto 1/18 Laguna Blue 2014 C7 Stingray Z51 and Ingot Silver 2015 Mustang GT along with a small plastic container with some loose Hot Wheels and Matchbox I picked up from time to time.

It all changed thanks to my friend, Dakota, who helped get me into the world of diecast collecting. I'd been longing to delve into the world of Minichamps 1/43 models, and in all honesty, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him.

I sold off most of my shoe collection to fund this hobby, but I couldn't be any happier with that decision. Thanks to how welcoming and friendly you guys all proved to be, I decided to stick with it and double down on the hobby.

I would like to share my favorite models from each of the major model manufacturers I bought cars from this year.

Minichamps 1/43 2014 Porsche 911 50th Anniversary (991.1)

Let's be honest, this was easily the best car I bought in 2019, and is easily my favorite model in the entire collection. It was hard to choose between this, the Taycans, and the 935/19, but this won out.

Maxichamps 1/43 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500 (R129)

One step closer to a Maxichamps W140. That and probably the best birthday present I've ever gotten.

AutoArt 1/18 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (991.1)

Never in my life have I felt so justified in spending almost $200 on a single model.

Norev 1/18 1997 Mercedes-Benz S600 (V140)

It was hard to choose between this and the S500, but the amber corner lights and delicious Brilliant Emerald Metallic paint take the cake.

Maxichamps in a Minichamps Box 1/43 1975 BMW 323i (E21)

In case my review of it wasn't proof, I do absolutely adore this thing.

Auto World 2018 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Lariat FX4 Sport and Greenlight 1993 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning

Two of my favorite trucks of all time to complement one another. I'm glad someone made them.

Tomica 2020 BMW Z4 M40i Coupe (A90)

Yes, I forgot about buying it a while ago. Yes, it was a pleasant surprised when it showed up. Yes, it's a Z4 coupe. No, I won't stop making that joke.

Matchbox 1980 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Wagon (S123) ("W123 Wagon")

Matchbox literally made a 300TD in Caledonia Green over Parchment. I will buy every single one I come across.

Hot Wheels 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo

Like the S123, I need like a billion of these. I already have six Guards Red ones.

Hot Wheels Premium 1964 Jaguar E-Type Lightweight

Easily the best Premium model this year. I even got an extra one for my desk.

Maisto 1/18 2015 Ford Mustang GT Premium 50th Anniversary (S550.1)

As you can see, I do enjoy 50th Anniversary cars quite a lot.

Bburago 1/43 2019 Lamborghini Urus

You might be wondering why this won over the 1/18 FXX K, Chiron, and GT3 RS 4.0, but all of my friends would be concerned if I hadn't chosen the car I got the day I was able to see a Chiron and Urus at Lamborghini Broward when they both arrived.

2019 was a banner year for my collection. I couldn't be any happier with it. Here's to many, many more cars in 2020.

Happy New Year, everyone!
