Hurrah! The Volkswagen bus has been future-proofed

Folks, time to clutch your heart because VW has given us an EV that will covert petrolheads to plugheads. Ladies and Gentlemen, say hello to the The Volkswagen Type 2 Bus.

It looks so motivating. That hearing aid beige color, that old school van looks and then that silent and futuristic heart, that is silent. This is the ultimate EV pleasure.

The VW van has been future-proofed by EV West, a company that sells high quality electric car parts, components, conversion kits, and charging station solutions, in collaboration with Volkswagen America

The bus has a range of 125 miles (200km) eked out from the 35.8 kWh battery system from the 2017 e-Golf. The position of the batteries is similar to that of the fuel tank, i.e. beneath the front seats.

The subtleness and serenity of this car is further enhanced by the classic interior and original long-throw shifter.

Mathew Renna, VP G4, Volkswagen North American Region said, “Their (EV West) passion for classic-car culture and commitment to renewable energy made EV West the ideal choice for this project. We thought, who better to see if the e-Golf powertrain would be the perfect fit for our older vehicles. It’s great to see that the spirit of hot rodding is going to live on into the electric age.”

Volkswagen are running out of words to appreciate EV West's achievement and why wouldn't they. The Type 2 Bus is the ultimate paradigm of how modern technology can enhance prevent a classic from saying goodbye to us. "Gut Gemacht" EV West

Wait, what is this doing here?

  • If they could get more than 125 miles of range. I wouldn't mind owning one of these.

  • Classic on the outside but modern deep down

  • EV-Conversion is the way to go for the these, since they had awful engines and the worst gearbox you could imagine. But a range of 200km is far too low, these are campers. You know, grand tourers for poor people. 200km is not enough.
