The Volkswagen Up GTI offers tiny hot hatch fun for tiny money
Finally, the price of downsized GTI fun is confirmed for the UK.....
Some will say that you cannot put a price on fun. This hasn’t stopped Volkswagen trying as the German carmaker has confirmed the UK pricing for its forthcoming Up GTI. For the entry-level model, just £13,750 of your hard earned cash will be required with an extra pair of doors setting you back £400.
Weighing in at a lightweight 1,070kg, the Up GTI packs a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder motor which is good for 113bhp. This translates to 0-62mph in just 8.8 seconds and 122mph of top speed.
While these numbers may not be setting your world alight, you should remember that 113bhp should offer spritely performance given the light load that it’s tasked with hauling around. The standard Up is a fun car to drive, so we fully expect this GTI version to be even better.
It even has a proper six-speed manual gearbox to add to the fun factor while harking back to its great-grandfather, the Mk1 Golf GTI with tartan GTI seats and a host of kit from the modern era including the likes of a DAB Radio and phone connectivity.
The order book opens in February 2018, but you will need to be quick as we expect a long wait list for the price.
So, would you have the Up GTI ahead of the Renault Twingo GT to get your tiny hot hatch fix? Let us know in the comments.

I thought about leasing, but we will see if it's really a funny car, or a go-kart with roof. The normal up! is very cool and fun to drive, but with sporty suspension and 17 inch wheels... I think it wil be a go-kart ;) Besides: In Germany the up! GTI is more expensive (costs 16.975 €; about 850 £ more)...
