There's a new Lotus Esprit!
And here's what we know so far...
Lotus is way overdue some new models. Look at the Elise. It hasn't had a proper remake since the S1. The Evora is outdated, the 3-Eleven a novelty and who buys any of these? Now, though, we have received news that three new cars are in the pipeline, two of which should be revealed this year!
One of these three is a Lotus SUV. I know, calm yourself down, but Lotus desperately needs sales otherwise it will have to be made defunct by its parent companies. As long as the SUV handles well and is light, then it covers the traditional Lotus values.
Lotus Elan Concept
The second new model is the long awaited Lotus Elise. This has been known about for a while, but not released yet and will be completely new, showcasing their new range plan, like the DB11 did for Aston Martin.
But, the final one, the most exciting, and the one due very soon this year is... well, you can guess by the title. A new Esprit! It will sit above the Evora range, but don't expect it to take to much from the Dany-era Esprit. Expect Evija inspired styling, and modern cab-forward proportions. Hopefully, it's also properly wedgy, as the Esprit that May drove in Patagonia was one of the best looking Lotuses I've ever seen!
Lotus Elise Concept (Vantage, anyone)
There is a possibility that Lotus will use Volvo powertrains, but it may decide to use more suitable engines or (whisper it) develop them in house? The new Elise, SUV and Esprit will probably be able to offset the costs of development, especially after hearing that the new Elise may cost an extra £10k on top of the old one's £30k starting price.
It's good news for British manufacturing. Aston Martin has been relaunched, McLaren has popped out of relatively nowhere, Morgan and Ariel have got new models, TVR is in the process of coming back to the market, Bentley has got a relevant model range and Rolls Royce has just been refreshed! Good times!
