There's something absolutely magical about the snow. The way it falls softly to the ground almost in slow motion, glinting in the light as it rests on the frost bitten ground. Yes magic is the best way to describe it, especially when you take your brand new 2019 Subaru Impreza Sport over the silent covered roads alone in the dead of night. The Impreza is nothing special and not a whole lot of fun on dry tarmac, but when it snows, and you've got the entire road to yourself... this car comes to life.
The symmetrical AWD system in Subarus these days might not be as glamorous or tech savvy as the 4matic system in Mercedes, or the Xdrive on some BMWs and no its doesn't throw 80% drive in the rear and 20% in the front or 60-40% like the advanced systems either, which may make the symmetrical feel bland in everyday driving, and even make for a little too much understeer than one might expect in an AWD vehicle of today... but... and this is a pretty big but. In the snow, or shall I say the "elements" this $20,000 little Subaru is an absolute JOY.
The weight if the vehicle allows for easy control when getting sideways and genuinely puts a smile on your face! Ripping through the snow and flying through turns going what seems to be WAY too fast, this car just keeps going. It might be the closest many will ever get to living out their dreams of driving Group B rally's (really not at all like Group B rally or well... any rally, but let's not ruin the fun). For me, a modest, somewhat poor university student, this car takes away the stresses and depression of the winter blues, and for that, I'm thankful. Thankful, even if I did go a "little" too crazy... (Exhibit A).
In seriousness though, it's worth it. Damages won't take too long to repair, and I'll have my snow machine back just as I recieved it new a few months ago, and as the winter begins to disappear and summer peaks over the horizon I'll have to go back to my normal mundane driving. Back with memories and a new love however, a new love for how much fun someone can have with a simple commuter car. Have fun, be safe, and remember it's never too late to start appreciating what you have instead of wishing for more.
Also... don't listen to this rubbish, keep wishing for that Lancia Stratos!
